CUDOS PhD candidate Moritz Merklein’s winning streak

Shortly after being awarded a SPIE scholarship, Moritz has won the first prize at the student oral presentation competition of the 7th International Conference on Optical, Optoelectronic and Photonic Materials and Applications, held in Montreal, Canada, for his presentation “Good vibrations: harnessing photon-phonon interactions on a chip”.

Judges praised Moritz’s research and communication skills, saying he was given the prize because he demonstrated a remarkably deep understanding of his subject, which he explained with great clarity and simplicity.

With this prize, Moritz received a $500 CAD check, an official certificate and a book.
