26-02-2016

137 people attended the CUDOS workshop, making it one of the largest gatherings of photonics researchers in Australia.

CUDOS made a concerted effort this year towards a more sustainable, eco-friendly event including a workshop bag and pen made from recyclable materials; reusable coffee; recycling of display materials; and selecting a venue committed to reducing carbon emissions. The event was awarded a Carbon Reduction Certificate as a Carbon Neutral Service.

Attendees were warmly welcomed to the Mercure Kooindah Waters by Councillor Doug Eaton OAM, Mayor of Wyong Shire Council. The natural surroundings were a delightful backdrop for informal discussions and sharing ideas with colleagues, as well as formal talks from leading local and international experts in the field of optics and photonics.

This year also featured two new sessions focusing on Communicating Science with training to increase the visibility of our research in the last two years of the centre operation and the Technology Showcase highlighting the inventions and spin-off companies started and developed at CUDOS.

The closing session of the workshop discussing the Legacy of CUDOS and what lies beyond was a lively end to this years’ workshop, with CUDOS Director, Ben Eggleton announcing that it was ‘The best workshop ever!’
